Today I’m experiencing one of the most magical adventures in Yucatán, Mexico – visiting cenotes near Mérida and watching the incredible Mayan ball game Pok-ta-Pok! 🛵🌊
I started my journey from Hotel Mucuy in Mérida (La Ciudad Blanca) with a rented scooter from Scooter Rentals Mérida – Merida-up.com. My destination: Santa Bárbara Cenotes, home to 4 unique swimming holes.
First was Cenote Xooch’, absolutely heavenly and picture-perfect. Then Cenote Chaksinkin, featuring stalactites that created deep echoing sounds like an organ. The third, Cenote Cascabel, was raw and cave-like with giant tree roots reaching inside. Finally, Cenote Pool Cocom – an open, lush cenote with dramatic cliffs and vegetation. 🌴✨
On the way back, I admired the stunning yellow Iglesia de San José de la Montaña in Eknakán.
At night in Mérida’s Plaza Grande, I witnessed Pok-ta-Pok, the ancient Mayan ball game, performed in front of the cathedral with all its rituals and history – a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
